I
had lost track of them after "Wings of a Dove" in 1983. I guess they
had various projects over the years in Europe that kept them in the
public eye, but, they had become a band that you think of in "Greatest
Hits" terms over here.
So,
I saw the review in Q and I ignored it. The article where they
discussed the new album with band members was interesting, but it still
didn't interest me.
January
can be a slow month for new music, that's why I make my end of year
lists, then, because I'm not hearing anything new. So, after seeing Q
recommend it for the next three months, I decided to give it a try.
I
should have listened to it earlier. It is very good. I'm still trying
to decide if I'm going to let it qualify for this year's best of list
(you know like the Grammys).
They
still have their roots in ska, but they have expanded their repetoire
to include other latin dance styles, this makes them
much more interesting than their previous work. They are highly skilled
due to the length of their career, plus, their songs seem to have a bit
more depth than when they were younger.
