Veronica Falls - Waiting For Something To Happen

Continuing on the theme from the Pure Love post, right about this time every year, there is a breezy, subdued, pop album with female singers.  In past years it has been Allo Darlin and Camera Obscura, this year it's Veronica Falls.

This is British indie pop with a little more bottom to it. While other bands, in this genre, go for lighthearted melodies that border on twee, Veronica Falls adds an influence of the Smiths or Jesus and Mary Chain to their still airy melodies.

It is a nice combination which makes it more interesting than the usual fare.

Pure Love - Anthems

February is always a slow month for new music.  Fortunately (I can't think of a better word), I have my eMusic subscription which forces me to find a couple of albums to buy since they already have my $12.

I listened to Pure Love's Anthems on Rdio on a Sunday morning,  I was trying to be sociable and sit with the family.  At the same time, I cannot stand to listen to Paula Deen, plus, I don't know why Trisha Yearwood has a cooking show.

The album started out and I immediately recognized the genre.  It is that British anthemic pop that is guitar driven, but, keyboard influenced. Are you asking if the singers were urgent?  Yes, they were very urgent.  They deeply cared about whatever they were singing about.

I am well aware that I am a sucker for this genre.  Just last year I picked up the new albums from the Maccabbees and We Are Augustines.  I must resist.  I will only listen to this until something more interesting comes out in May.  Do not push the buy button.

I bought the album and it is now in the rotation when I workout.  I am enjoying it.  And, I was wrong about the album.  It is solid indie rock.  While it has a very British feel to it, there is also a solid amount of east coast rock and roll in there.  It is growing on me and it might stick around until the end of the year.
