Robbie Robertson - How To Become Clairvoyant

I really enjoyed Robbie Robertson's self-titled first solo album. I listened to it too much, I grew a little tired of it. It was a mainstay on Canadian radio for years (Canadian content). I still hear it on the radio when I am in Vancouver.

The next album wasn't that interesting and I stopped paying attention. As I started wrapping up this year, I noticed the new album showing up on the end of year lists, so I gave it a listen.

The album has a very familiar feel to it. The melodies are reminiscent of old songs from The Band, but if pressed, I couldn't identify the specific songs. It is a comfortable album and the songs have familiar themes to his other work.

I listened to this back to back with Paul Simon's  new album and I was struck by some similarities. They are both albums by men at similar points in their life and musical careers. They are both highly skilled at making their music and producing it properly.

The one difference, and I can't explain why this is, I really liked this album. There is something about it that drew me in and caused me to be interested and connected with it. I did not react this way to Paul Simon's album and I don't know why.  I also have too much to do to figure it out.
