Intro

I have two main activities that occupy my time outside family and work. I ride my bike and I listen to music. I started a travel blog and I will use that to put my bike posts. I am creating this blog to cover the other side of me that I like to talk about.

I listen to music a fair bit. I use it to block out coworkers when I am coding. I like to listen to music when I am reading magazines or books. I listen when I am web surfing. I listen in the car on long trips (I still like sports talk radio for local trips).

I like a broad range of music. In general, it needs a beat and melody. My friends will tell you that I listen to a fair bit of crap. I won't argue with that. I like the following, this is not a comprehensive list:
  • Pop music - I love most forms of pop music. I have a particular soft spot for southern California pop of the 70s.
  • Brit pop - This  occupies a disproportionate amount of what I listen to. It's like chocolate, I can't get enough of it.
  • Indie rock - I am very hopeful that the demise of the large record labels will create a market where more artists can make a living playing music.
  • Classic rock - Another guilty pleasure.
  • Rap/Hip Hop - A little goes a long way here, but I do listen to some.
  • Country - I like traditional country music. It needs to have a twang and swing.
  • Jazz - Up to about 1965.
  • Punk - My tastes here are very traditional and don't run very deep into the genre. It is very similar to my tastes in metal.
One final point, I hate auto tuning. It worked for Cher, but that was it.

On to the posts.

  1. You know, give you a guitar and you look like a blues musician.

  2. Oh my god, you like Brit Pop? I have a 6 hour playlist dedicated to Brit Pop! It's like we're related or something...

So I am assuming you have Adele, Mika and Duffy. Have you got James Morrison, Melody Gardot, Pixie Lott, Sharleen Spiteri and don't forget Will Young?

If you need more suggestions, just ask me.

  3. Adele, Mika, Duffy, Florence and the Machine, Pigeon Detectives, Elbow, Mumford and Sons, Noah and the Whale, ... It goes on. I buy Q Magazine every month just to keep up with it.
